Hope everyone has a great weekend. Don't forget to bring your practice spelling test in on Tuesdays. Workbook pages will be due on Wednesday.
My plan is to take some basic geography quizzes daily next week. On Tuesday we will quiz over the west and southwest regions and the cardinal directions. On Wednesday, we will quiz over the midwest region and hemispheres. Thursday will cover the northeast region, latitudes (parallels), and longitudes (meridians.) Friday will cover the southeast region and locating specific locations on a map.
We have been focusing on ordering and writing decimals in math. We will continue reviewing and working on that standard next week.
We have finished our health ch 10 and its connections to Kid in the Red Jacket. I will be quizzing over that at the end of next week. All vocabulary words and definitions should be in the back of the green science folder. (Connection sentences to Kid are bonus points.)
We will finish The Hundred Dresses and another short picture book that go along well with our health focus unit. I will be checking to see who met their short term goal (lesson 2 ?) for hours read for the super bowl. That goal is written in their agendas.
Hope everyone finds time to do some awesome reading for enjoyment over the weekend!
Finally, congratulations to King Ethan R., Princess Lauryn, and Duchess Attika for our math royalty today. (My apologies to Queen Kendra...we miscommunicated, but we'll be seeing more of her soon on our royalty court.)
AGAIN, HAVE A GREAT LABOR DAY WEEKEND!

If you look closely, you can see the students using their ruler to estimate how many millimeters our new baby fish are today. Hopefully, by this time next week, we will see growth. We had several students earn bonus money today by sharing some of their research about the tilapia.

Don't forget tomorrow is the spelling test and workbook sheets are due.

Monarchs Have 77 Reading Points
Thank you for encouraging your child to make reading every evening a good life habit. We only have three monarchs now who need to get off the bench and join our team.
We have a very difficult math homework sheet tonight. We did several together on the board. Please review these sheets with your child. One of the homework sheets being sent home tonight was actually graded yesterday by the students themselves grading their own paper. Goodness! That didn't work out well when I collected them and looked them over. Our first math test was yesterday. Today they had the privilege of reviewing what they missed and then taking a form B of that test and doing only those missed problems. They will receive half a point for each corrected answer.
Hope to see a packed house tonight at 6:00! Be ready to ask me any helpful questions.

Last day to order books is tomorrow. Also, if you wanted to order a hoodie, please let me know by Friday so that I can get that one time only order in to A+ Printing.
Please take a look at the Morning Message papers I sent home today. The students write my "Morning Message" from the white board, correcting any mistakes they find. Then we go over together as a whole group. They are allowed to correct any mistakes that they missed (in red pen). These mistakes are not counted in their grade. If they correct all their mistakes, they receive the full ten points for that letter. The response back letter is also worth ten points. I am checking for the skills we just reviewed...not spelling, etc... I will be taking up the notebooks again on Friday. That will include Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday's letters. We discussed today the possibility of alternating with the older version of Daily Language sheets. (Their suggestion...not mine.) I like the fact that this is applying what they are learning in a connected, real-life situation. We'll see how it goes. If you have an opinion, you are more than welcome to join in on the conversation.
Also, some confusion on spelling practice tests. They are not to be written on the spelling workbook pages (even though that is how the workbook pages were designed.) Instead, please just use your regular lined paper, give the test as I will on Wednesday, check it, and correct any mistakes two times each. Tomorrow is when the workbook pages are due. If you used the front paper for practice test, just write them again one time each either on that paper or your own.
Math sheet homework/ has lesson 10 from Saxon's practice on the back.
Most students finished their Red Hot Words (SUB / TRANS root word sheet). If not, please finish and return tomorrow.
We are putting up our self-portraits for Thursday night. If your child did not finish, please do so and return tomorrow.
Only 4 Monarchs left on the bench on our reading Super Bowl challenge. ALL readers should have a minimum of one hour already/ two by next Monday. Please encourage at least 20 minutes per night.

Hello, My Awesome Monarchs!
Wow! The day just flew by today. So much to talk about...we needed more time! Hopefully, tomorrow can begin looking more like a typical day. I was really impressed with so many of my new monarchs. I'm looking for good listeners and eager learners.
We are hoping to get off to a great start in our reading super bowl tonight. It takes an hour of reading at home to earn the monarch football player for out in the hallway field. Everyone needs to read at least for 20 minutes tonight and write a 2 sentence summary of what they read in their composition notebook. Looking forward to seeing those tomorrow.
That's it for homework for tonight, but please try to return your information card and checklist from parent's orange paper in the morning.
SEE YOU TOMORROW!
